Another happy family welcomes their new addition
Philamer and Robert A., parents of Emma
Robbi was a huge asset before and during delivery. She helped keep everyone focused and relaxed. Her participation eased the birth and brought our daughter happy and healthy into this world.

It was a joy to have Jodi Kent Spencer participate in both births of my daughters, Mayana & Emunah. Her calm demeanor and commitment to my happiness ensured a successful and valuable experience for both me and my husband. Thank you for your devotion to women's needs in birth! I could not have done it as well without your guidance!

I did not utilize the services of a doula for the birth of my 1st child and I really wish I would have. I believe my birth would have been a lot easier and shorter. I had a great experience using Jodi as my doula for my 2nd child's birth. I had 5 hours of active labor, a perfectly natural IV-free water birth and had a 10 pound baby (in 7 pushes) and it was an absolutely glorious event. That is what a doula can do for you! They are proven to shorten labors, minimize discomfort and eliminate the need for risky drugs. I highly recommend labor support for all birthing moms but especially for first time mothers that are not yet experienced in child-bearing. Jodi let my husband be my main support and it was wonderful.

Jodi and Robbi are both extremely knowledgeable about the labor process and they are both excellent doulas with a wonderful reputation in our community. Robbi is the utmost authority on breastfeeding and a LLL Leader for the Glassboro Chapter. Jodi and Robbi also teach birth classes which I attended. I can honestly say that without the knowledge I had gained from the classes, my birth would not have gone so smoothly. I do believe that their classes are essential. They are informative and fun. My experience was great and I would absolutely utilize their services again if I have another child.

I chose to have a doula at my son's birth because I knew I wanted to have a natural birth experience in the hospital. I was at peace knowing that someone was there to help me who had gone through a natural child birth and was trained to help women have the same experience. Jodi was there to listen to my concerns, encourage me, hold my hand through labor and offer any advice and natural coping methods. My husband was wonderful throughout my pregnancy and labor but nothing compared to having another woman at my child's birth who understood what I was going through and could anticipate my needs.

I had a rough time sustaining a pregnancy. When I finally got past the 13 critical weeks, my doctor told me my pelvis was too small to deliver a normal size baby and that I would have to have a C-section. My mother was forced to have a C-section with me, and I just didn't feel this was right.

My mother is a homeopathic doctor and she highly recommend Jodi. I called and we met and - wow - did I feel empowered.

Jodi taught me about my body and how nature (and God) made women to bear children. The emotional support I received from Jodi during this time was extraordinary. No one but her seemed to understand what I was going through, and no one but Jodi knew the right things to say. When it came time to deliver my baby my plan was to have a home birth. I had midwives and Jodi - and I was determined to do it. Jodi was incredible. I was in labor a total of 27 hours, she was with me through almost the whole time encouraging, supporting, empowering me to do what I knew I could do.

I ended up having to go to the hospital, but I still delieverd my beautiful baby without the help of "modern" medicine - no drugs! My birth expierence was a very positive one; I wasn't scared or intimidated. It was a wonderful experience that I will remember forever.

My husband and I also took Jodi's birthing class. It was a great experience to view other women having babies at home. I learned so much about my body and my capabilities. The experience was not a sterile, hospital, medical experience. It was a nice relaxed, positive, supportive environment. All the women I know who had babies at the same time I had mine that did not go through Jodi as a Doula or Birthing class ended up in the hospital with c-sections (more than 5 women). I am certain if they knew what I knew, their babies would have been born naturally.

I sometimes say that a doula's byline should be, "hire a doula, she'll make sure you sleep!" Having a postpartum doula is an amazing, wonderful, meanginful, warm experience. She takes care of the mother and makes sure that the mother is well enough to take care of her baby. Also, a postpartum doula helps with everything around the house (laundry, meals, childcare) to give the new mother extra time to bond with her new baby.

For me, Robbi was a friend, a helper, a mother, a sister and a caretaker all at the same time. She helped me to recuperate physically and emotionally. She knew just how to prop the pillows to make breastfeeding that much easier and she knew just what to say when I needed it. I appreciated everything - her knowledge, her flexibility with plans and mostly her warmth and compassion that she shared with our family.
